Of Mice and Men ~ Post #5

In the book, I think that rabbits symbolize Lennie. This is because Lennie is always referring to the rabbits whenever he is afraid he is going to make George mad because, George said that if he does something bad, he will not let him tend the rabbits. In the novel, I think that the character Crooks represents difference. I think that he represents difference because he is the only colored person in the entire farm. And he has to live with that, of course, until another colored farmer comes along. He is also represents difference because he is crippled and he lives alone in his own room. My reaction to Lennie killing Curley's wife was, "OH MY GOSH!" I was very surprised. I knew that he had the power to do that, but I didn't think that he would use that power. Now that he has killed her, I think that Curley will tell his father that he killed her. But he will leave out the part that he also crushed his hand because he didn't want anybody to laugh at him. I think that she represents jealousy. I think that she represents jealousy because she is jealous of all the other people on the farm that are allowed to talk to eachother and not get yelled at. But she has to follow Curley's every command.

Journal Entry ~ Lennie Perspective

Dear Diary,

To'ay I'm mad. I'm mad 'cause George wouldn't let me bring the pup in the cabin. He told me that next time that I do that again, he was go'in to let Slim take it back. But I don't want him to give it back! He might kill 'em! I don't want him to do that 'cause I'm gunna have him 'till the pup is old. Like that old guy does. His pup is old. But his pup is real smelly. But my pup is goin' be smellin' like them fresh raspberries.

Journal Entry ~ George Perspective

Dear Diary,

I hate the way that I always have to look out for 'im! It gets so damn annoyin'! Why can't he just be normal! Being in hot water at all times aren't good! UGGHHH!!! I know that he don'y do it on purpose but it gets real annoyin'! We're trying to make progress to have our own farm but all he's doin' is making it very derogatory.

When there are times that I think of the days that I can have with out him, I'm in paradise. I could be in someplace nice 'n be recumbent next to a beautiful palm tree by the beach.'N I could have a nice home and maybe even have a sweetheart and a nice fam'ly. And what do I got, I got that crazy phyco.

(Sigh*) Now I just have to mollify myself so I won't go crazy and jump off a damn cliff. But the other thing that's bothering me is that Curley guy. I hate that type of guy. Cocky. Self-centered. Selfish. Arrogant. All the things that I wouldn't want, is in him. And he is so, pugnacious. I could tell 'cause he wanted to pick a fight with Lennie today. He's gunna get himself real hurt if he don't watch his back.

Sincerely,
George Milton

Of Mice And Men ~ Post #2

How does George treat Lennie? How do you think George really feels about Lennie?
George treats Lennie like he is an idiot. When ever George is angry, he takes all the anger out on Lennie. I think that George feels bad for Lennie. That's why he hasn't left Lennie behind yet. If George really didn't care about Lennie, then he would have left him alone a long, long time ago. Another reason why I think that George hasn't left Lennie behind yet is because George knows that Lennie had a mental problem and he feels guilty when he leaves him.

What is George and Lennie's dream? Provide details. Do you think it's realistic or not?
George and Lennie's dream is to have a farm or ranch by themselves. When they have their farm, they want to have different things. George wants to have a gallon of Whiskey and play cards or shoot pool. Lennie wants to have lots of rabbits and mice and lots of other soft things so he could pet them all day. Lennie also wants to have the rabbits in all of the different colors.

Why do you think George says "Migrant workers who travel from farm to farm are the loneliest people in the world."? What makes he and Lenny different?
I think that George says that quote because he was probably one of the lonely migrants before he met Lennie. I think that this quote is different from George and Lennie. This is because they are not alone. They have each other to keep each other company. And they also do not travel from farm to farm. They travel away from trouble.

In a Good Friend ~ Post #1

Why do we have friends?
We have friends because a lot of us don't want to be alone at all times. So we make friends to spend time with. When you don't have friends, it makes you feel like you aren't like anybody because you don't fit in.

What makes a 'good' friend?
In a friend there are some things that must be there. Some examples are, honesty and respect. In my opinion, I think that honesty must be in a friend because if a friend can't trust you then there is no point of even calling that person a friend. Respect is another very important thing because you must have respect for everybody. Even when that person isn't a person that you know. You still should be respectful. Another thing that I think that every friend should have is faith for you. Your friend should help you through all your problems. At least try and help, and do what ever that they can. A good friend should also encourage you to do things that you are either nervous about or that they think that you would be good at.

What is a big dream in your life?
A big dream or goal that I have in life is that I want to go to college and get a good education and graduate with a master's degree, and have a good job and live in a nice home. With a good education, you can very easily get a job because people aren't going to want to hire a slob. They are going to want to hire somebody with a very high degree. And when I have a good job and a nice home, I am going to make my family proud.

Over The Summer Reading

A book that I read over the summer was called, The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan. The genre is fiction. The book is related on Greek Mythology. It is about a boy named Percy Jackson and he is a demigod. He goes on a quest to retrieve a lighting bolt and return it to Zeus. I would recommend this book to anybody who loves Greek Mythology and horror.
